Gallery-wide show on the theme of photographers’ choice of different visual points of view. Each of the solo shows in the gallery record interesting visual qualities found in the mundane, commonplace world around us, when seen from a specific, physical point of view.

Included are ‘Looking Down’, ‘Looking Up’, ‘Looking Closely’, ‘Looking Through’.. and my exhibit, ‘Looking Narrowly’ (Bay #3). Come join us for this unique show.

With photographers Wayne Parsons and Ron Meisel at the opening.

Artist Statement: “I have done several sets of “People Walking” series with varying points of view. This group of images show very fragmented bits of people (and dogs), and the ground for the first time plays an important role. What is missing from the frame is as important, or more so, than what has been included. Bodies are moving in and out of the picture; where the people are going and why remains a mystery. But wherever they are headed, they move with purpose and at that fast pace for which New Yorkers are known.

These images foreshadow my later ground-oriented pictures (where I remove the human element entirely); I see these photos as a hybrid of the two bodies of work. The walking pictures are all about motion, the ground pictures are about moving slowly and paying attention. These “Looking Narrowly” images have a little of both, pulling the viewer in all sorts of directions.”

Attendee at Fotofest: March 17 – 20, 2016

I am happy to be headed to Houston in March to participate in the portfolio reviews at Fotofest 2016 Biennial.

From the Fotofest website: “A place where photographic artists, arts professionals, collectors, and colleagues network, collaborate, share ideas, and establish life-long connections. The 2016 Meeting Place will connect 120 international decision-makers, with over 400 artists, over 16 days. The FotoFest Meeting Place is the largest event of its kind in the world.”

I will be showing my work to 20 reviewers from around the world, and I will be participating in an “Evenings with the Artists Open Portfolio Night” in downtown Houston at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel, 400 Dallas Street, Houston, TX from 7 – 9 pm.

Wish me luck!

A small works show sponsored by PWP (Professional Women Photographers). I have two photographs in this exhibit. All work is reasonably priced.

“Color, by definition, is present in every color photograph but it is not always what the image is primarily about. When one first looks at a photograph, something in particular usually grabs the viewer’s attention. It may be light and shadow, texture, content or composition. In this show, it is color that takes center stage.

There are various ways in which color can be paramount in a photograph. It can define a mood and elicit an emotion from the viewer. It can highlight or isolate a particular subject. And, by fanciful alteration or exaggeration, color can turn the ordinary into something magical.

For this small works show, we are showcasing images that are defined by their exceptional or unusual use of color.”

Park Slope Windsor Terrace Open Studios
November 7 – 8, 2015

In case you missed me in the Gowanus studio tour you have a second chance! I will be participating in the Park Slope Windsor Terrace Open Studio Tour, November 7 – 8 (12 – 6 pm)… save the dates. I will be exhibiting at 374 14th Street, Brooklyn 11215 (corner of 7th Avenue), second floor, not in my usual downstairs space (but in the same building).

As indicated before, I will be showing a lot of new work, in addition to your old Holga favorites. Over the past year I have expanded on my “People Walking” series and have started a theme of ground pictures…. which includes “Street Abstractions” (abstract images of the ground, painterly in nature), and “Nature Out of Context”, which is close-ups of leaves and such on the sidewalk.

I have also been posting these types of pictures on Instagram (instagram.com/susanbowenfoto) on an almost daily basis.

The closest subway stop is the Seventh Avenue stop of the F train. If you exit at the wrong end (Eighth Ave) just go downhill one block, and then go 5 blocks south to 14th Street.

Hope to see you there!
